Arangino Castle
The Arangino Castle is a private historic building built in 1917 by Cavalier Vincenzo Arangino, a wealthy landowner and influential figure in early 20th-century Sardinia. The castle is a rare example of a neo-medieval-style stately home, widespread between the 19th and 20th centuries.
The building is interesting for its decorative solutions and is characterised by a rich façade with continuous re-propositions of unique architectural elements. The corner balcony, with its corbels and roof, is characteristic, as is the entrance portal to the residence, located on the main façade. The skilful use of stone, plaster with faux ashlar finishes and brick lends the façades a harmonious elegance.
The Castle once served as both a holiday home and a hub for social and political life. In 1929, it hosted Prince Umberto II of Savoy and his wife Maria José of Belgium.
According to local legend, a female family member discovered a hidden treasure in an old chest – used as firewood during a harsh winter – which funded the Castle's construction. The Arangino family died out in 1954, following a tragic and bloody event.
